Virgin Australia has launched a sale on domestic flights which will see tickets to some of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations sold for as little as $49.

The discounted fares will include several Australian routes for selected travel dates between April 30, 2025 and February 11, 2026.

The sale will last until March 2 or when tickets run out, with customers able to book flights to some of the country’s most iconic destinations, including Cairns and Uluru.

Chief Commercial Officer Dave Emerson said the airline knows what customers want.

‘Virgin Australia is committed to delivering more value and choice to Australian travellers, and this sale is another way were making that happen,’ Mr Emerson said.

‘We know our customers want great fares with exceptional service and we are always ready to go the extra mile to offer the best deals and experiences in the sky.’

Economy seats on flights between Sydney and Ballina – the nearest airport to trendy Byron Bay – will begin at $49.

Seats on flights linking Sydney and the Sunshine Coast, Sydney and the Gold Coast, and Sydney and Hamilton Island, are selling for between $65 and $109.

Passengers flying between Melbourne and Launceston in Tasmania can purchase an economy ticket for $59.

Those flying between Melbourne and Adelaide will be able to do so for $85.

Economy seats on jets linking Canberra and the Gold Coast will start at $85.

Travellers wanting to journey between Brisbane and Uluru will be able to board a Virgin jet for $129.

Virgin Australia planes will also link Brisbane and Darwin for $195.

Rival carrier Qantas announced its own seven-day sale on flights to 60 domestic locations until March 2.

One million discounted tickets are on offer for travel dates from April 29 to June 26, July 22 to September 18, and October 14 to December 10.

The Qantas sale sees domestic economy seats start from $109 on one-way journeys, or 5,400 points.

Domestic business seats are selling from 23,500 points – plus related charges – or $369 one-way.

Travel agency Flight Centre has also launched a sale on flights to popular international holiday destinations, including London, Paris, Tokyo and Seoul.
