If you have someone’s air travel advice in the back of your mind, flying for business can be a far more pleasant experience.

There are a plethora of business travel considerations that can be made in advance to ensure a pleasant flight, and a wealth of information on how to do so can be found online. As with anything, the best flight travel recommendations come from other people’s firsthand knowledge and experience, so don’t settle for anything less than the best.

Because of this, I’d want to share some of my favorite tricks of the trade with you.

Make sure you get the proper seat at the right time.

I used to be one of those travelers who ignored all air travel advice and said to myself, “I’ll get what I deserve.” Now, however, I know better. However, you should take my word for it when I suggest that paying a little more for a better seat or taking a few more minutes to select your seat online is the nicest present you can give yourself on a flight.

On either side of the equator

I’d advise you to take your time and come to your own conclusions on whatever type of seat works best for you. Even if you’re a first-time business traveler, choosing a window seat gives you two distinct advantages over those who don’t: a place to lean while you sleep and the assurance that you won’t be disturbed by your seatmate’s need to use the restroom.

Keep a pair of headphones close by at all times.

Some individuals believe that if you have access to in-flight entertainment, you won’t be able to sleep or rest during the journey. Except if you’re stuck on an airline and have no other option but to listen to your music, those travel recommendations would never tell you about the power of headphones. Even better, the in-flight music selection might provide the perfect lullaby for you and your loved ones. If you want to go even farther, bring a noise-cancelling headset with you so that you may listen to your music in complete silence.

Keep an eye on your carry-on luggage when flying.

In the same vein, some might argue that the inconveniences associated with flying carry-ons are short-lived and well worth the additional conveniences you would acquire. That’s something I’d want to point out: it can be anything but brief. If your extra carry-on bag gets up near your legs, you’ll lose the little legroom you had.

Time saved means more time spent (sometimes)

You may believe that bringing only your airline carry-on luggage for your business trip will speed up your departure and check-in times, but you may find that there is simply too much for your seat to accommodate. Your advantage in the beginning would be wiped out.

As a final piece of advice, don’t get bogged down in too many details or options, and instead enjoy your flight.
